Rosie's Plate - Big News Update
I've written pretty extensively on this blog about Rosie's Plate. You can read all the previous posts here. Obviously, I hold them in pretty high regard, and it's because they keep evolving and growing to meet our Gluten Free needs. See below for two more great announcements about expanding services from Rosie's Plate.
- Rosie's Plate Gluten Free food will soon be available at Rex Hospital here in Raleigh. Not only will Rex's cafeteria carry some Rosie's Plate food, but safe, Gluten Free food service will also be available to folks staying at the near-700 bed hospital who require a GF diet. This is simply amazing news and an absolute no-brainer if you are Rex. In an environment where they have a non-dedicated GF kitchen, why not outsource to a local, trusted, dedicated facility to meet your patients GF needs? All I can say is kudos to Rose Waring (owner of Rosie's Plate) and her staff for ever-expanding their products/services to more Raleigh area GF consumers. She is a pillar in the Raleigh Gluten Free community and we are lucky to have this company! Also a big thanks to the folks at Rex, specifically Jim McGrody, the Director of Food and Nutrition Services @ Rex.
- Rosie's Plate Gluten Free food will also soon be available in Raleigh's Brier Creek location of Earth Fare. Beginning on Thursday, April 8, 2010, many Gluten Free items from Rosie's Plate will be available. There will be a kickoff weekend event (4/10 - 4/11) that will include tastings and more.

GFRB Health Network Welcomes Digestive Healthcare Raleigh
Allow me to welcome another Gastroenterology practice to the Gluten Free Raleigh Blog (GFRB) Health Network. Digestive Healthcare in Raleigh is familiar with Celiac Disease and sees many Celiac patients including the author of this blog. Most of us with Celiac Disease fall under the care of a GI doctor during our life with the disease (if you are not - shame on you). Digestive Healthcare is yet another valuable resource to Celiac's or suspected Celiac's in this area.
I happen to have a bit of a warm spot in my heart for Digestive Healthcare. I visited them after having gut symptoms (enough said) for several months and losing 25 pounds. Celiac Disease was mentioned among a list of conditions I could have (including cancer) during my first office visit. My doctor ordered a Celiac Blood Test and I was diagnosed in under 1 month. Not everyone should have to suffer for 10 years and go through several doctors before getting the diagnosis correct. Digestive Healthcare is one GI practice getting it right.
Digestive Healthcare is a 9 doctor practice with 2 locations in Raleigh. The practice includes Dr. Colm J. O'Loughlin who was previously Director of the Celiac Disease Clinic at the Medical College of Wisconsin prior to moving to Raleigh where he joined Digestive Healthcare in June 2007. Digestive Healthcare also offers endoscopy services on site at their Atrium Drive location in Raleigh. If you're a medically diagnosed Celiac patient, you've had a small bowel endoscopy.
Welcome aboard Digestive Healthcare - and thanks for being a great resource for Celiac Disease in Raleigh!

GFRB Health Network Welcomes Dietitian Debbie Jongkind
Allow me to introduce another Dietitian to the Gluten Free Raleigh Blog (GFRB) Health Network. Debbie Jongkind is a registered dietitian with over 20 years experience who has started a new practice called Gluten Free Guidance in the Durham area. Debbie has Celiac Disease (along with her daughter, sister and niece) and has much experience living Gluten Free.
Debbie is also the dietitian who oversees the Gluten Free Week for kids with Celiac Disease at Camp Kanata (I will be writing more about this VERY SOON). The camp is one of 2 in the nation sponsored by GIG (Gluten Intolerance Group) and lucky for us it is held each year in Wake Forest, NC located just north of Raleigh. This year's camp will run from June 21 - 27 and allows Celiac children to attend a camp like a regular kid while being safely provided a Gluten Free Diet. Debbie has been overseeing this camp for several years now.
FYI - You may have noticed some new links at the top of this blog for Gluten Free blogs about neighboring cities around Raleigh. Debbie will shortly begin blogging for the Gluten Free Durham Blog over the next few days! Stay tuned for more information.
Welcome Debbie and thanks for helping your fellow Celiac patients!

GFRB Health Network Welcomes Duke Gastroenterology of Raleigh
I have been working on bringing some Gastroenterologists familiar with Celiac Disease into the Gluten Free Raleigh Blog (GFRB) Health Network for the past several weeks. Most of those with Celiac Disease are diagnosed by GI doctors or are under their care at some point. It was important to me to expand the Health Network to include these GI doctors and Duke Gastroenterology of Raleigh is the first (of I hope many) to be a part of this growing Health Network.
The Duke Gastroenterology of Raleigh practice is located in North Raleigh near Duke Raleigh Community Hospital and is affiliated with the Duke Health System. The practice has three doctors; Aaron L. Woofter, MD, Jesse Liu, MD and Savita Srivastava, MD. I have spoken with Dr. Woofter on the phone and through various emails over the last few weeks. He was very excited about being able to help Celiacs and/or people who were having GI issues that thought Celiac might be the cause. He let me know their practice handles many Celiac patients and is accepting new patients at this time. He also let me know that Duke is continually ranked among the top 15 best hospitals in the country for gastroenterology by U.S.News & World Report, and the faculty of the Division of Gastroenterology are national and international leaders in their respective specialties.
Welcome aboard Dr. Woofter and your associates and thanks for helping!

GFRB Health Network Welcomes A Celiac Dietitian
I mentioned last week the formation of the Gluten Free Raleigh Blog (GFRB) Health Network which I hope turns into a large network of the health specialists in Raleigh who are the most familiar with Celiac Disease. If you need some help with issues surrounding Celiac Disease or the Gluten Free Diet, the hope is that you can use the Health Network as a starting point to get the help you need.
I'd like to welcome the first member of the GFRB Health Network, Leslie Gaillard. Leslie is a registered dietitian who has been living with Celiac Disease since 2003. Some of you may have been referred to a dietitian when you were first diagnosed for assistance in learning the GF Diet. I've heard examples of CD patients showing up and simply receiving print outs about the GF Diet from various Web sites. Most of you probably know more than the Dietitian you saw if they are not living the GF lifestyle. To bad you're probably out several hundred dollars before you can figure this out! This shouldn't be the case with Leslie since she is actually living the GF Diet.
Here is a little more information about Leslie...

Special Announcement: Gluten Free Raleigh Blog Health Network
I am in the middle of establishing something I have coined "The Gluten Free Raleigh Blog Health Network".
The GFRB Health Network will be a useful resource for readers of this blog to assist them with finding Celiac friendly Doctors, Nutritionists, Dietitians, Dentists, etc...
A big part of what I am trying to accomplish with this Blog is to raise awareness about Celiac Disease and the GF Diet in Raleigh. The natural progression of this is for me to reach out to local Health Care providers in this city to make them more Celiac friendly. Granted, there are some great ones already out there. Hopefully you have been lucky enough to find one. If you have, please email me with their information and I will attempt to bring them into this network.
The first part of this Network will be to "partner" in a way with resources I know are already Celiac/GF friendly. Readers will easily be able to find resources to contact for more assistance. The Network may be small now, but it is a start. I have been reaching out to local resources over the past few weeks with more to come in the future.
Stay tuned for further posts about the first member of the GFRB Health Network. I'll give you a hint, she's a Dietitian (who actually has Celiac Disease and has been living GF for 5 years).
