Betty Crocker - More GF News

I've been a little busy itching/scratching a recent DH flare up - sorry I've been away... Regardless, we've already had so much good news from General Mills (like that they clearly label 200+ products as Gluten Free), but here is some more - again from Betty Crocker.

You may have already begun seeing the newly labeled Betty Crocker frosting containers in grocery stores in the area. General Mills had originally planned for this labeling change to begin this fall but they appear to have just now begun arriving. Now you can put some GF frosting on your Betty Crocker GF brownie or cake mix!

Click here to see a complete listing of the available Gluten Free Betty Crocker frostings. Click each link to open a picture of the packaging. I've included a sample to the left. You can see the Gluten Free in the bottom right side of the label.

Gluten Free Raleigh Betty Crocker Giveaway Winner

Three weeks ago I announced the first Gluten Free Raleigh Product Giveaway Contest which featured the brand new Gluten Free baking mixes from Betty Crocker. To win, you needed to sign up for my email listing and be a Raleigh area resident. A whopping 75 people have signed up for the email subscriptions during this time! This has been a pretty successful method to gather contestants so I'll probably do this in the future as well.

Our lucky winner is email subscriber jaynspencer! Congrats! Hope you enjoy the 4 baking mixes from Betty Crocker. We made cupcakes last night and they were yummy!

Stay tuned for more prize giveaways in the future and a huge thanks to the folks at MyBlogSpark.com for making this giveaway possible.

FYI - things have been extremely busy for me lately but I hope to pick back up with some more great Gluten Free Raleigh stuff next week. Hope you are enjoying your summer (and the nightly thunderstorms).

Hopefully this will become a regular thing here on Gluten Free Raleigh. You've probably seen this on other blogs - but basically, one lucky reader of this blog will win a huge prize pack from Betty Crocker/General Mills. The prize pack was provided to me by a company called MyBlogSpark.com - which is basically a group of bloggers who have signed up to be among the first to review new products.

Prize Pack Details
-Betty Crocker Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie mix
-Betty Crocker Gluten Free Brownie mix
-Betty Crocker Gluten Free Yellow Cake mix
-Betty Crocker Gluten Free Devils Food Cake mix
-Betty Crocker re-usable shopping bag
-Betty Crocker pen & shopping list magnetic pad set
-Coupons for 2 additional free Betty Crocker mixes

Betty Crocker Gluten Free products
I've written plenty before about the good stuff going on over at Betty Crocker and General Mills. MyBlogSpark.com also provided me with the above prize pack so I could try out all the new GF mixes. We've made the cookies and brownies so far and have been extremely pleased with the results, texture and taste. The only downside so far was that the cookies were a little crumbly but who cares when that taste that good, right? We've yet to try the cake mixes but will do so very soon and provide a review here. FYI - in case you have not heard, all flavors of Betty Crocker Ready-to-Spread Frosting will be labeled Gluten Free this Fall!

How do you win?

It's pretty simple... in order to be eligible, you need to be an email subscriber of Gluten Free Raleigh. There are about 90 of you already registered to win at this point. If you are not sure if that includes you or would like to sign up for email subscriptions to Gluten Free Raleigh, please use the form below to sign up. If you are already an email subscriber, the form below will notify you (you cannot sign up twice with the same email address). Betty Crocker Gluten Free Baking Mixes

You may have seen my previous post about the brand new Betty Crocker Gluten Free baking mixes which will be hitting shelves nationwide June 1, 2009.

The product line up is as follows...
  • Betty Crocker® Gluten Free Yellow Cake Mix
  • Betty Crocker® Gluten Free Devil’s Food Cake Mix
  • Betty Crocker® Gluten Free Brownie Mix
  • Betty Crocker® Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
I recently stumbled upon a brand new Gluten Free section of the Betty Crocker Web site, located here.

I found it interesting why Betty Crocker went GF, as noted on their Web site...
Why Go Gluten Free?

Not long ago, two of our co-workers found themselves in the gluten free world. Linc was diagnosed with Celiac disease, and Colleen’s family switched to the diet for her son’s well-being. Their experiences opened our eyes to the challenges families face following the diet. It’s hard to be different, especially when it affects sweet moments with friends and family. No one wants to miss sharing a birthday cake or see their child have to turn down a homemade cookie from a buddy after a game. We hope we can help by bringing you these mixes for gluten free desserts that look and taste like the treats you’ve been longing to share. Finally, Betty Crocker® Gluten Free!
The new site also has some good Frequently Asked Questions, No Butter baking instructions and recipes. Also, some more good news, as all flavors of Betty Crocker Ready-to-Spread Frosting will be labeled “gluten free” this Fall.

More Gluten Free Products from General Mills?

Blogging and the Internet is a great thing! You can find out so much information - it really is changing the way and frequency of information provided to consumers. Check out the following posts I found recently from a blog called kill.the.gluten about new Gluten Free baking mixes from Betty Crocker (another General Mills company).

Sneak preview of new Betty Crocker GF Cookie, Brownie and Cake Mixes.

Cake Mix Review

It appears these may also be released around the June 1, 2009 time frame as I mentioned yesterday with the new Gluten Free Chex varieties.
